Going To the Source

It's the line that separates the informed from the manipulated

We live in a time when those who wish to understand the world around us must get used to dealing with incomplete and sometimes misleading details.

Despite all the news content we consume, we still know very little of what is happening in the world.

Much of the press and mass media is owned by corporations whose livelihoods depend on pleasing the government and their biggest advertisers.

It’s in their interest to maintain the status quo.

This is not to say that there is no truth at all in their reporting.

The deception more often takes the form of half-truths or incomplete facts that prevent us from being better informed.

Coverage is generally manipulated to fit the official narrative.

If we want reliable information on a particular issue, we’re going to have to go out of our way to find it.

Few people have the time or personal commitment to truth to do that.

However, this is the line that separates the informed from the manipulated.

It comes down to whether we place greater value on truth or ideological advantage.

This underscores the importance of making it a habit to fact-check whatever information is before us.

Otherwise, we run the risk of becoming unwitting dupes in someone else’s scam.

The source doesn’t matter as much as our willingness to weigh, compare and analyze whatever information we’re receiving before going around repeating half-truths or falsehoods.

This is why it is always preferable to go to the source whenever possible.
